The orphanage project is dubbed “Tembea Nami” English for “Walk with me”. The name was coined after several engagements with the children in different homes and the constant plea to be walked through the different spectrums of life.
The problem.
Most people visit children homes to donate food once in a while. We rarely take time to develop a relationship with the children to understand the challenges they go through. Those that are lucky to complete school end up in streets because of peer pressure, drugs and substance abuse, sexual abuse or pregnancies.
Challenges addressed.
Tembea Nami program trains and educates the caregivers and children on the following issues.
- Poor sanitation
- Child abuse and neglect
- Emotional abuse
- Stigma and discrimination
- Abandonment and life uncertainties.
- Malnourishment
- Food and nutrition.
- Education.
Tembea Nami holistic approach.
We designed “Tembea Nami” to go beyond handouts and end poverty cycles by walking with children and empowering them with strong social ,spiritual, emotional and economic skills that will enable them to transform their communities.’’ – Caroline Bittok
